BAO London

BAO was one of the first Asian restaurants that I have tried here in London and that we go very often until today! The restaurant is inspired by street markets in Taiwan and the menu is all about BAOs.

Difficult to find a translation for BAO, I thought of calling it an Asian hamburger, but I think it wouldn’t be fair! BAOs are made with ‘buns’, steamed Asian bread and the most traditional filling is usually pork. I’m not sure which one is my favourite, all of them are fab! For those who try it for the first time, I suggest the classic pork and the fried chicken.

At BAO there is even an ice cream bun for dessert, I’ve eaten several times and I love it!

There are a couple of BAO restaurants across London, our favourite is in Soho. It’s tiny but cosy! There is usually a waiting line rolling across the street, but usually, it doesn’t take too long.

Now with this pandemic and lockdown madness, they have DIY buns options! Boxes delivered to your door with all the semi-ready items you will need to make your BAO at home. They offer both pork and vegetarian options. A nice option if you like us can’t wait to have some BAOs again. 🙂
